If after a chiropractic consultation and examination it is determined that a patient would benefit from chiropractic care, then they would receive a chiropractic adjustment.
The purpose of an adjustment is to restore the normal alignment and motion of the joints of the spine. All joints are designed to move, and it is when they stop moving that problems arise. When the bones of the spine are misaligned or have lost their normal range of motion this is called a subluxation. The nervous system coordinates all of the body’s systems and vital functions. If the nervous system becomes irritated by a subluxation then the functions of the body can be affected. In order to experience better body function the subluxation of the spine is corrected by the chiropractic adjustment.
The sound created during an adjustment is the result of fluid attraction. Every joint consists of two bony surfaces which are bathed in fluid. If you can imagine a glass sitting on a wet glass table this resembles two hard surfaces which are bathed in fluid—like a spinal joint. When you pick up the glass you will probably hear a sound which is caused by fluid attraction. This same principle holds true when a joint is adjusted. The sound created is due to fluid attraction.
The chiropractic adjustment helps return your spine to optimum health by restoring and maintaining nerve and joint function.
