In September 2013, I suddenly had debilitating upper back pain with accompanying pain and weakness in my left arm. I saw a physician who prescribed a muscle relaxer and a heavy pain killer. The pain pills certainly relieved me of pain for 6 to 8 hours and I was sleeping most of that time, but without the pills my pain was almost unbearable. I could not sleep in my bed. One day I attended the ER to ensure I was not having a heart attack. I was not! I had not attended a chiropractic clinic in many years. I remembered that Dr. Stacey Cooper had – some 20 odd years ago – helped me with sciatic nerve pain. And as many people are inclined to do, I stopped getting adjustments when I felt better.
In October 2013, I made an appointment with Dr. Cooper, and I must say it was with some dread! I was in such pain that I feared more pain, and this would take me completely out of my comfort zone. I am sure I was ‘surly’ at that first visit, but Dr. Cooper was quite calm, positive and re-assuring. I cannot state that my first adjustment was pain free. However, each visit was better than the last. The back and arm pain started to lessen after just a few visits. Some weeks later Dr. Cooper and I celebrated my being able to sleep in my own bed, rather than a recliner chair, and my ability to open a water bottle with my left hand. Dr. Cooper not only adjusted my body, she improved my knowledge. We had very good conversations about my body and on-going good health. She gave me hand outs at each visit that were filled with information on staying healthy. She has a lending library with books that patients are allowed to borrow. Dr. Cooper also suggested that I give yoga a try – which I did, and it has been very helpful in strengthening my core and improving my balance and flexibility. Due to the benefits of my chiropractic care I am now able to participate in water aerobic classes once a week, I walk for an hour before my weekly yoga class. I also enjoy my line dancing class twice a week and my golf games twice a week. I am able to be more active now than I was 2 years ago, thanks to the care and advise provided by Dr. Cooper. Dr. Cooper doesn’t just adjust her patients bodies, she engages them to learn about how to improve lifestyles in order to stay totally healthy for many years. Even though the back pain is gone, I will continue to visit Dr. Cooper for chiropractic care.
